Book "Mastery".
Albert Einstein was one of the many men labeled as a genius in the history of mankind, but there are some important facts that history does not tell us. For example: when Einstein graduated from the Zurich Polytechnic he graduated with one of the lowest GPAs in his class; a very similar problem was faced by Napoleon Bonaparte, who is considered one of the greatest military geniuses in history, he graduated second to last in his class at military school. Einstein did not like mathematics, but he loved physics and was obsessed with solving puzzles and complicated problems. Today when a child is deficient in an area they are taken to after school tutoring and forced to learn things they don't want to learn, and that is one of the biggest problems with our educational system. If Einstein were to be described by his grades in chemistry or mathematics he would not be a genius, he would have been a child with learning disabilities; fortunately for both of them they found their calling in life and did not let themselves be manipulated by their low GPAs or what people thought of them.
Discover your calling: your task in life
It is never too late to start this process. You, like these great geniuses, are born unique, a once-in-a-lifetime phenomenon, but over the years there are forces that divert us from our calling, some of the causes may be social pressures or thinking that what you like is embarrassing or unpleasant, or that your parents want you to study a more lucrative profession. Finding your calling in life is a complicated process and it is a process that we have to do on our own as individuals. Once we find our calling we are on our way to finding mastery.
Surrender to reality: the ideal apprenticeship
In a remote part of the Amazon rainforest in Brazil live the Piraha Indians because of the depth and remoteness of where they live it was never possible to evangelize this group of indigenous people. Daniel Everett, a Christian missionary and linguist with great determination, took on the task that many other men and women had failed to do in the past, which was to translate the Bible into the language of the Piraha and eventually evangelize them. He, along with his wife and two children, immersed themselves and lived with the Indians, but after a few years Daniel felt frustrated by his inability to understand the language, always carrying with him an infinite number of notes where he translated several of the words used by the Indians, but his efforts were useless because they were of no use to him. In his daily coexistence, the problem that Daniel had was that he felt superior to the indigenous people, his sense of superiority and that of the previous missionaries was his greatest weakness, when we are learning and undertaking the change to mastery we have to recover the sense of inferiority. He managed to understand and speak the language of the Pirahacu when he began to live with the children and learn the language as they did, feeling inferior and having the humility to accept that he could not understand them. You, like him, do not get frustrated, everything takes a process and a learning process and we have to learn to enjoy it. If you maintain a sense of superiority it will be one of the biggest barriers you will encounter in this stage of mastery. But this metamorphosis that Daniel underwent did not happen overnight; Daniel's family lived seven years deep in the Amazon. The great geniuses had to go through more than ten thousand hours of practice and learning to achieve mastery. Mastery is like wanting to cut down a tree of great circumference, you will not be able to fell it with one blow of the axe, but if you are persistent it will eventually fall.
Assimilate the power of the master: the mentor dynamic.
The reason you need a mentor is simple: life is short and so is your time and energy.Your most creative dreams are between the ages of 25 and 50. The quality of your teachers is that they have suffered by nature to get where they are, they are the ones who have experienced and lived through countless criticisms of their work along the way, mentors give you a shortcut to expedite the procedure. Before asking your mentor to take you under his wing you must have basic knowledge and discipline, you must have basic knowledge of what you want to learn and you must have something that may be of interest to your mentor, if your mentor accepts do not shy away from beginner and modest jobs, this is basic to your learning and your path to mastery.
See people as they are: social intelligence
Social intelligence has only one purpose, which is to understand people, to learn through observation. One of the most effective ways to read others is through body language, this is a skill that everyone should acquire, because when we are face to face with a person engaging in a conversation 35% of the conversation is verbal and 65% is nonverbal. For example, in a job interview what often decides whether you keep the job or not are the first five minutes of the interview because your body language when you walk through the door and the interviewer is waiting is the most important part. You have to pay attention in the way you greet and the way you sit in the chair, but we also have to be conscious in the way we use our hands to express ourselves, for example: when you greet the interviewer do you greet him with a firm hand or not, because if your hand is not firm it means you are not a trustworthy person, and your arms should always be open, as well as your legs and feet, because the opposite means you are a closed person and you are hiding something.
The dimensional mind: the creative - active phase
Fusing the intuitive with the rational: Mastery
There are many studies that say that the mind develops from the time we are in the mother's womb and continues until our adult life, we must conceive that the mind is a muscle that tightens unless it is exercised awareness.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is known as a musical genius, but what many people do not know is that in order to compose his masterpieces he had to practice and dedicate himself to the piano for more than 20 years. His father was an accomplished pianist and since he was 3 years old he taught him to play melodies on the piano. There came a time in Mozart's life that he no longer saw notes or keyboards on the piano, music became a second sense, he saw patterns of music and experimented with all kinds of sounds and sequences, this is how he composed his greatest musical works. This moment is considered the Mastery and is a consequence of having played the piano for more than 20 years. For mastery there are no shortcuts and many people when they see the complexity of mastery feel demoralized and look for an easy way out and simplified ideas that seduce them and make them believe that with tricks and shortcuts they will be able to achieve mastery. The other is an easy gateway to their problems, which is to blame others and look for justifications for not doing so.
I too have been where you are now. When I started my dream of setting up my own Medical Clinic and was the CEO, I didn't know how to fulfill my responsibilities at work and still be present at home with my family. However, after making changes in my productivity, goal setting and leadership, I was able to take my company forward through an economic recession the country was in and achieve positive results; all while being home in time to have dinner with my family every night.
I now teach the same principles that helped my leadership, along with my team, here at CIME Academy.
