Book: "Think and Grow Rich".
There are several types of poverty: food poverty, monetary poverty and mental poverty. Henry Ford and Andrew Carnegie were born and raised in very humble places and had no formal education, both may have suffered from monetary and even food poverty, but never from mental poverty since they revolutionized and created industries leaving a great legacy to humanity.
One of the principles used in this book is "thinking". In essence, thought is something different from a dream, since dreams alone are just an illusion that are often said out loud, but the individual never strives to turn them into reality; however, dreams accompanied by thoughts are different since these must be given shape, color, action, a path and even protection from all the obstacles they may face.
When you are planning to get rich you cannot let people with mental poverty influence and belittle your thoughts and dreams. Remember that those men and women who have given their talents to build our civilization with airplanes, automobiles and medical discoveries had a definite purpose and a burning desire to achieve it. Henry Ford said that "Thinking is the hardest job there is, perhaps that is why there are so few people who practice it".Thinking, like dreams, must be accompanied by a burning desire, desire is nothing more than that engine that motivates you to follow the course you have decided to take. One of the ways to turn your thoughts into a burning desire is by following Tsun's description in his book "The Art of War", in which he describes, among many other strategies, the 9 different battlefields and one of the most outstanding ones is that of the "Deadly Ground", which is the ground where the troops can only survive by fighting. The troops are in a geographically disadvantageous position, such as having a mountain on one side and the sea in the rear, so the only way to survive is to fight; putting the troops in this disadvantageous situation makes the soldiers fight without fear because it doesn't matter if they are outnumbered, since the only way to return home is to survive. And this survival instinct is what we can create by converting our thoughts into desire, by putting ourselves in this situation we do not have the possibility of failure, but it forces us to do everything in our power to achieve our goal.
The author in his book tells us that there are many people who give up very quickly and fail to achieve their goals, for example, he tells an anecdote that there was a miner in the mountains of Colorado in the United States who had discovered gold on the surface of the mountain and was sure that if he dug a few more meters he would find more gold. Days and months passed after his first discovery and he found nothing, so he gave up and retired. Months later, engineers went to check the mountain and after making several studies they concluded that gold was only one meter away from where the miner was digging for the last time. The moral of the miner's story is that you must have perseverance and perseverance to finish what you start, no matter how many small failures you encounter along the way.
The way to make our thoughts tangible and bring them to reality is with specialized knowledge; that is the point where thoughts must be taken to concrete actions; there is a big difference between dreaming of having wealth and doing what is necessary for that dream to become a reality. There are many people who spend most of their free time watching TV or watching soccer, know a lot about the latest series and brag about having watched a whole series in less than a week. This set of things are what are conspiring against you to generate wealth and this is where we have to ask ourselves "how many people take at least 30 minutes a day to learn or read how to start a business or make more money? "Napoleon Hill says that those individuals who dedicate their free time to acquire knowledge and study are the people who are going to generate great wealth.
Let's remember that what you do with your thoughts and your free time defines the person you are and the person you will become.
The author talks about 9 fundamental principles:
1º The Thoughts
Thoughts are very powerful; in fact, when men really think they get rich.
Many years ago Edwin Barnes had a fervent desire, to become a partner of the great Thomas Alba Edison. His desire was very precise: to work with Edison, but he had two drawbacks: he did not know Edison and he did not have enough money to travel to meet him. Most men would have been discouraged by this, but not him, so he managed to get to see him and Edison realized in his body language and expressions that this man brought something unmatched, because when a man wants something so badly that he is willing to bet his entire future on one card to get it, he is assured of success.
Edison gave him only one job, but Barnes wanted to be associated with him and would not leave until he got it, even if it cost him his whole life, so Barnes proved to Edison that he could sell the new dictating machine that Edison had built.It was so successful that he made a contract to distribute it all over the nation.That's how Barnes proved to Edison that you can really think and get rich by sticking to a desire and not stopping until you have achieved it.
One day Henry Ford decided to build an 8-cylinder engine in a single block and had his engineers make a prototype even though they told Ford that it was impossible; he still decided to continue and told them that they would not stop working until they had achieved it. Twelve months went by with no results and still they continued until one day the secret was finally out, Ford's determination won out. He applied one of the most important principles of success - the desire to know what you want. We are the masters of our destiny, we have the absolute power to control our thoughts and our brain is magnetized, these magnets bring to us strength, people and circumstances. Everything that the human mind can conceive and believe can be achieved.
2º The Desire
Desire is the starting point of every achievement and the first step to wealth. Let us remember that Barnes succeeded because he chose a definite goal and put all his energy, all his willpower, all his efforts, everything for that goal.
Every human being who achieves the raison d'être of money wants money, but wanting it is not enough, you have to desire it mentally until it becomes an obsession and then make a plan of action and apply it with self-motivation and self-discipline to achieve wealth, and for this desire to transmute into its monetary equivalent there are six steps:
1º determine the exact amount of money that you desire
2º know exactly what you intend to give in return
3º establish a time frame by determining
4º create a plan of action
5. write a clear and concise statement of the above steps.
6º read your memo twice a day and feel that you are already in possession of that money.
These steps do not require hard work or sacrifice, but faith, because faith is the primary element of the mind; in fact, the emotions of faith, love and sex are the most powerful positive emotions. To increase your faith you have to use autosuggestion, the repetition of the affirmation, giving orders to your subconscious is the only known method of voluntary growth, of the emotion of faith; that is why the more you stimulate a thought the more you tend to conceive it in reality, that is why we must stimulate the positive emotions as dominant in our mind and eliminate the negative ones.
3º Autosuggestion
Autosuggestion is the vehicle to influence the subconscious, it is the control agent through which an individual can voluntarily feed his subconscious with thoughts of a constructive nature. We refer to the constant repetition of your desire so that it can influence your subconscious to achieve absolute faith. The subconscious assumes any order given to it in a state of mind of absolute faith and acts following those orders; that is why you are asked to repeat your dream.
4º The Specialized Knowledge
The author in his book tells us that there are two types of knowledge:
- the general: which is very useful for us in the accumulation of money, that is why most teachers do not have a lot of money despite possessing a lot of knowledge.
- specialized: knowledge will not bring money unless it is organized and intelligently directed by practical plans of action for the purpose of accumulating money. Knowledge is only power when it is directed towards definite plans of action to your objective.
One day Henry Ford was called ignorant in a newspaper, so Ford sued for libel. At the trial the newspaper lawyers asked him a lot of questions to show that he was ignorant, but seeing that they were questions that Ford did not know Fordles interrupted and told a lawyer that why did he need to fill his head with general knowledge for the sole purpose of answering questions when he had buttons in front of him that by pressing them he could call a man capable of answering any question they asked him, implying that it was not essential that he had general knowledge in his mind, only the necessary.
5º Imagination
The imagination is the workshop where all the plans created by man take shape, it has been said that man is capable of creating anything he can imagine, that is why it is necessary to exercise often the imagination since this faculty weakens as a consequence of the lack of activity. Remember that the idea is the starting point of all fortune and that the great leaders of business, finance, artists, musicians, poets and writers became what they are because of their imagination.
6º Organized Planning
You must make a fully defined and practical plan, also you must apply the principle of teamwork preferably and if you do it, practice leadership. Remember to have unwavering courage, self-control, clear sense of justice and always do more than what is asked of you.
7º The Decision
Remember that failure is more often due to lack of decisiveness than anything else, so you must have an excellent ability to make quick and concrete decisions. You have to make decisions quickly and change them slowly when you have the need to do so.
8º Perseverance
Perseverance is an essential factor in the process of transforming desire into its monetary equivalent. The foundation of perseverance is willpower and when willpower and desire are properly combined they form an irresistible partnership. The author tells us that we can train ourselves to be perseverant. Perseverance is a state of mind that is based on these causes:

- Desire
- Self-confidence
- Action plan
- Accurate knowledge
- Cooperation
- Willpower
- Habit
9º The power of Teamwork
Power is necessary for the accumulation of wealth and let us remember that power is organized knowledge, so you can gain a lot of power by means of a working team.No individual will gain great power without having a working team at his disposal.You can gain economic advantages by surrounding yourself with the advice, counsel and cooperation of a group of people willing to give you honest help.
I have been where you are now, too.
