Book: "Do it".

When was the last time you did something for the first time?

The book tells the story of a company president who asked three simple questions to a group of people:

1) Question: Who wants change?

Answer: Everyone raised their hand in unison.

2) Question: Who wants change?

Answer: No one raised their hand.

3) Question: Who wants to lead the change?

Answer: No one raised their hand, in fact, everyone left and no one was left.

And this simple anecdote is the reality of many people in all aspects of life. Many times this is due to:

- "The fear of being wrong".

We have all worked for a boss or for a company in which a person who wanted to implement a new system or improve something that was not quite right, but when he executed his plan, things did not go well and he failed.

When someone dares to initiate or change something in our system and fails, most likely his boss will call him to attention, humiliate him or even risk losing his job. All this for having dared and made a mistake, this is a vicious circle that leads every individual to repress their ideas and creativity, and therefore the people who witnessed this event learn that if they dare and make a mistake the same thing can happen to them. Once this system is implemented in your business or in your company, or even in your circle of friends, it is a motivating factor, but a dark motivation that stops our potential as individuals, the motivation to do NOTHING.

- "The Epidemic."

Our brain has been programmed for millions of years to have defense mechanisms against the threat of danger and thus when the brain identifies some kind of danger and this is converted into a feeling of fear. Fear is linked to our reptilian brain and what emanates from this part of the brain are actions and emotions that are created automatically, without having to think about them. In simpler words, it is like walking through the forest and seeing a two-meter bear coming towards you, our brain automatically activates our defense system paralyzing our body. The same happens when the idea of undertaking a project crosses our brain, our reptilian cerberus is activated and many people are paralyzed in front of the uncertainty of not knowing what will happen and this happens because we are programmed to be afraid.

This type of actions have become a vicious circle because when we are in a constant state of fear and stress this can cause great dangers to our life, such as staying in a job or work that you do not like or staying in a destructive sentimental relationship for fear of starting over, or even losing our childhood dreams because trying to achieve those dreams is too risky.

In the book "The War of Art" by Steven Pressfield the author calls this voice of the reptilian brain as "resistance". Most of the time resistance is the equivalent of doing nothing, this voice inhibits our best opportunities and prevents us from breaking established patterns and paradigms. The most important thing then is to identify and recognize this problem so that we can fight against this voice that prevents us from growing.

- "Starting implies and requires finishing."

We all know that friend who has a lot of good ideas, who tells you a lot of projects and fantasies full of possibilities. Often the harsh reality of these people is that they are taking notes and busy analyzing so many things that in the end they don't start anything. And what happens when you ask them what they have done with all those ideas and projects. It gives these types of people great pleasure to have the excuse that all that brainstorming is keeping them very busy. The message of the book is very simple: "DO IT!". That is, initiate, because the dangers of standing still are much greater. Our system is designed to reward mediocrity and repress new ideas, so now that we have identified and know which and what is the engine that feeds mediocrity in our system, and also how our brain works by activating our defense mechanisms that were inherited by our ancestors millions of years ago; the only thing left is to dare to be different because the only thing that can fight mediocrity and the fear of failure is ourselves.

"There are two mistakes we can make on the road to truth, not going all the way and not starting." Siddhartha Gautama
